I am wondering what is the main focus of the festival? How will teachers actually benefit from it? Would it be practical or theoretical?
Posted by irishteachingandlearningfestival on June 1, 2010 at 4:11 pm
Hi Kenneth,
There are a number of key themes for the festival including ICT in the classroom, teaching gifted children, lesson plan construction etc. We assure you there will be something for everyone! While there will be some theoretical aspects, the practical sessions are going to be quite exciting. These include:
• Using your technology effectively in the classroom
• Collaborative Procurement: How schools can save by purchasing together
• Internet safety and cyberbullying
• New resources for teaching Irish, Maths and Science
• Special needs education in mainstream education, resources that are available for parents, teachers and schools
Hope you can make it!

Thank you sir/madam,
One major concern I would have is that the only speaker listed on the website is Lord Puttnam. Will there be more high profile speakers attending?
Posted by irishteachingandlearningfestival on June 1, 2010 at 4:54 pm
Glad to help! Another major speaker will be Dr.Theo Lynn of the Link initiative (See: http://www.link.dcu.ie/). A full list of speakers, exhibitors and sessions will be available shortly on both the website and blog. Thanks for the interest, and look forward to hearing from you in future.

I wonder how would one go about applying to speak at the festival? I would certainly be interested.

We here at the Irish Teaching and Learning Festival believe in collaboration and cooperation when it comes to education. If you or others are interested in partaking in the event, please send an email to info@itlfestival.ie

Hi,
Is this event run in collaboration with the department of education? Or if not, will the department play a role in the running and structure of the festival?
Will both Friday and Saturday offer the same speakers or will the speakers differ? I ask this as I live in Tory island and am unsure if I could travel up and back for both days.
Posted by irishteachingandlearningfestival on June 18, 2010 at 4:59 pm
Hi Peter,
The teacher education section of the department of education shall be running a number of sessions during the conference. Although the department of education is not funding the event they are allowing their resources to be used at the festival to train teachers. You are advised that different speakers will be on each day of the festival, however, if a particular session is proving to be very popular we may run it on both days.
Regards and thanks,
The ITL Festival team

I was wondering if people will need to sign up for seminars and if they will be on a first come basis?
Posted by irishteachingandlearningfestival on June 16, 2010 at 11:02 am
Hi Marie,
If you register to attend the festival you will be kept up to date on all seminars, at the minute there is no need to sign up for the seminars but we will inform you of any changes.
Regards and thanks,

I have registered for the festival but am unsure if I can attend due to other commitments, may I still win the interactive whiteboard? It would be of great assistance in my own school.
Posted by irishteachingandlearningfestival on July 16, 2010 at 3:53 pm
Hi George,
Don’t worry, by registering for the event you are automatically put into a draw to win the interactive whiteboard.
Thanks for the comment George, hope you can attend the event.
Regards and thanks,

I recently visited the website of the festival and the program only includes the keynote speaker, will there be more speakers? Or has the program simply not been updated?
Posted by irishteachingandlearningfestival on July 19, 2010 at 11:09 pm
Hi Glennis,
Unfortunately the programme page on the festival website has not been updated recently, however if you read through our blog posts you will be introduced to a number of confirmed speakers such as David Puttnam, David G. O’Grady, Theo Lynn, Vincent Hyland, Samantha Clews from Promethean etc. You will also find information about some of the companies who will be exhibiting at the event. You are advised that if you register to attend the festival you will be kept up to date on all seminars. If you have any further queries we would be delighted to help.
We hope you can make it to the festival.
Regards and thanks,
The ITL Festival team
